Plastering is the trade people find hardest to buy well, because the finished job looks identical on day one whatever was done underneath. How it works
Tell us about the walls: which rooms, roughly what state they are in, and your postcode. The enquiry goes to one independent local plasterer covering your area, who looks at the job properly and puts a fixed written price together. Skimming and re-skims, plasterboarding and dry lining, external rendering, coving and cornice, plaster repairs and Artex removal all follow the same standard.
The standards we hold quotes to
- A scope in plain words: skim over existing, board and skim, or hack off and start again, stated room by room rather than left ambiguous.
- Preparation named: paper stripped, dusty surfaces sealed, blown areas cut back, fresh bead to corners and reveals.
- Two coats of finish: laid on and trowelled through several passes as it firms, so the surface is closed and flat rather than filled afterwards.
- Honest drying advice: when the room will actually be ready for a mist coat, in the season you are in, not an optimistic number to win the job.
- Protection and waste: floors sheeted, rubble bagged, and a clear answer on whether a skip is included.
- Insurance you can read: public liability cover evidenced by certificate, and someone who will return if a corner cracks.
Who runs it
The site is run by 360 Media Works Ltd, a Teesside company founded by Simon Hogben, from Varsity House on the Preston Farm estate in Stockton-on-Tees. The guides are written to be useful whether or not you ever request a quote here, which is why they include the real figures, the tests you can run yourself, and the awkward questions a sales page would leave out.
